The Qingdao Underwater World is a large-scale marine biological exhibition project designed by New Zealand’s Seascape Company and jointly invested by the Qingdao Aquarium and the Shandong Luxin Investment Group. It is a harmonious combination of the sea with mankind, nature with culture, and history with reality.
As a national AAAA-rating tourist spot, the Qingdao Underwater World highlights marine science and education, aiming to show the tourists the mysterious underwater world in an all-new perspective. The Underwater World has become an excellent name card of the city of Qingdao.
The enchanting underwater scenes and fantastic marine life here are a magnet for the tourists. It is hoped that the Underwater World will inspire people’s love of the sea and life, and joint efforts will be made to protect the sea and our mother earth.

Qingdao Underwater World is a national Class AAAA tourist spot situated by the Huiquan Bay and near the famous Luxun Park and the No. 1 Swimming Beach. The Underwater World enjoys a unique location, modern equipment and charming scenery. It is composed of a marine aquarium, a sea animal performance hall, a marine organism specimen exhibition hall and a freshwater aquarium. The Qingdao Underwater World has become a well-known tourist attraction in China.
The Underwater World is a modern large-scale eco-tourism project integrating tourism and science education. Its unique amusement items such as “Dance with Sharks”, “Mermaids Show”, “Underwater Ballet”, “Underwater Adventure” and “Underwater Wedding” attract large numbers of tourists from around the world.
Qingdao Underwater World has set many firsts in the tourism industry, including 2 world firsts and 4 national firsts.
1) The biggest acrylics cylindrical aquarium in the world;
2) The biggest marine organism specimen exhibition hall in the world;
3) The first aquarium in China with all the exhibition facilities constructed underground;
4) The first aquarium in China with an underwater passage equipped with 180o, 254o and 360o
exhibition windows;
5) The first aquarium in China equipped with fluorescent paintings;

The Underwater World consists of four underground levels with the following main facilities: an inter-tide zone, a seabed tunnel, a cabin passage, a marine theater, the world’s biggest acrylics cylindrical aquarium, a tropical rainforest zone, a rare marine organisms zone and a science education zone (including a multimedia interactive screen, a touch pool, an open lab, an education classroom and a studio).
The eight exhibition areas are arranged in the form of a spiral so that visitors may fully enjoy the fascinating sea. The rich contents and people-friendly environment will greatly benefit the visitors. |
